According to stories, Lord Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. One of the most popular tales tells us how he got his elephant head. Once, Goddess Parvati created Ganesha to guard her while she was bathing. When Lord Shiva came and tried to enter, Ganesha stopped him. Not knowing he was Parvati’s son, Shiva got angry and cut off his head. Later, to calm Parvati, Shiva replaced it with the head of a baby elephant and blessed him with great wisdom and powers.

Ganesha is also called the god of wisdom, knowledge, and learning. Students often pray to him before exams because he is believed to bless them with intelligence. His large ears teach us to listen more, his small eyes tell us to stay focused, and his big stomach shows patience and the ability to accept everything in life.
